EASTON, Pa. - Junior
Sean Yurgel scored his third goal of the season and the only goal the La Salle men's soccer team would need in a 1-0 victory over Lafayette on Tuesday evening. The Explorers received stellar play from its back line, despite missing two of its regular starters due to red-card suspension, as they evened their season record at 5-5-3. The Leopards, who currently sit third in the Patriot League standings, fall to 6-4-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half was a defensive battle that yielded just three shots total from the two teams.
- La Salle's one shot of the opening stanza was an important one, as Yurgel slid a shot past a sprawling Lafayette goalkeeper and into the lower-right corner of the goal to give the Explorers a 1-0 advantage in the 33rd minute.
- The two teams picked up the pace offensively in the second half, as the home team registered seven shots over 45 minutes.
- Three of those attempts were on frame, with La Salle sophomore Filip Sabatti negating each one to keep his sheet clean.
- The Explorers did have a decisive advantage in corner kicks, 6-2, with five of those coming in the second half.
- In addition to Yurgel's attempt, seniors Justin Brunow and Drew Blackwell each had attempts for La Salle.
- Lawrence Aydlett had five of Lafayette's eight shots on the evening, including all three that were denied by Sabatti.
- La Salle played 21 players on the evening, including the first career action of freshman Oluwatobi Osoba.
