Larripa Shines as the Explorers Come Out on Top in a Historic 2-1 Double Overtime Victory

RICHMOND, Va. – La Salle earned their 11th win of the season in dramatic fashion as Clara Larripa scored the game-winning goal in double overtime against VCU.

The team will face William & Mary on the road Sunday at 11 a.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The teams started the game playing stout defense. The first shot for either side came 11 minutes into the contest by Dunja Hartsch, but it was blocked by a Ram.
  • Zhao Rodrigo had the best opportunity for the Explorers in the first quarter as she sent a shot in that gave Sheridan Messier her first save.
  • The reigning back-to-back Conference Offensive Player of the Week was able to get the second scoring opportunity for the Explorers, but to no avail.
  • La Salle held the Rams to no shots in the first 30 minutes of play.
  • After a lengthy weather delay, La Salle had the early opportunity after the break. Sophia Wasyliw was able to get a shot off that went just wide after a penalty corner.
  • Clara Larripa made her make in this game, as she's been doing all season. The first goal scored in the match was off of a rebound right in front of the goalie, her sixth straight game with a score.
  • Early in the fourth the Rams had their first penalty corner chances and both were defended off by La Salle.
  • Within the final two minutes of regulation the Rams found the equalizer. Mora Marrero was able to get her 11th goal of the season to tie the game at one before the teams went to overtime.
  • The first overtime period presented plenty of opportunities for both sides. Each team had multiple penalty corner opportunities, but none were converted.
  • In the first overtime VCU was given a yellow card and played the remained of the period a woman down, but it did not result in a La Salle goal.
  • Just over a minute into the second overtime, Larripa was able to end the contest. She took the ball through two defenders and passed it to Tatum Johnson before moving in front of the goal. Johnson got a shot off and Larripa deflected it over the goalie to end the contest.
