WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Julianna Smyth scored a goal with four minutes left in the fourth quarter to help the La Salle field hockey team score a 3-2 win over William & Mary for its seventh consecutive victory on Sunday at Busch Field.
With the win, the Explorers improved to 12-4 overall on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Explorers got off to a fast start, as Tatum Johnson put in her ninth goal of the season to give them a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute.
- The Explorers kept their 1-0 advantage through the first quarter after the defense fended off six William & Mary shots, four of which were saved by Emily Streib.
- In the second quarter, William & Mary tied the game at 1 two minutes into the period, but the Explorers bounced back by taking a 2-1 lead four minutes later after Sol Espona scored off a pass from Johnson.
- In the third quarter, the Tribe tied the Explorers at 2 after scoring in the first minute and a half of the period off a penalty corner.
- In the final period, Smyth came through with her game-winning goal with 4:21 left after scoring off a pass from Quinn Medico.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Explorers were efficient on offense, scoring their three goals on seven shot attempts.
- Smyth's game-winning goal marked her third game-winner of the season, which is tied for the fourth-most in the Atlantic 10.
- With her goal and assist, Johnson now has 24 points on the season, good for fourth among the A-10 leaders in that category.
- Streib finished with a stellar game in the cage, making seven saves.
