Women’s Soccer To Open A-10 Tournament Against Rhode Island

PHILADELPHIA — The second-seeded La Salle women's soccer team will begin its postseason run on Friday night when it hosts No. 7 Rhode Island in the Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament quarterfinal round at McCarthy Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.`

The game will be televised on ESPN+. In addition, Explorers fans can follow the team on X @LaSalle_WSOC and Instagram @lasalle_wsoc.

SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS
  • The Explorers finished the regular season with an 8-1-1 record in A-10 play and a 10-5-3 mark overall after going on a nine-game unbeaten streak — their longest streak since 2017.
  • The Explorers are hosting their first A-10 Tournament game since 2019, when they topped Dayton, 1-0, in the quarterfinal round.
  • The Explorers look to win their fourth straight match against Rhode Island and their seventh overall against the Rams in their last 11 meetings.  
  • Haley Gschrey and Justyce Hollenbach lead the Explorers in points (13) and goals (six). The two forwards are tied for seventh in the A-10 in goals.
  • Elizabeth Estrada, Emily Banashefski and Giovanna Castorina are tied for the team lead in assists with four.
  • Ricshya Walker leads the team with 36 shots and 18 shots on goal.
  • Junior Michela Auguadro leads the team in saves with 54 in 16 games of action. The junior goalkeeper has posted seven shutout victories in net, with her seven clean sheets good for sixth in the A-10. 
  • La Salle is led by Paul Royal, who is in his 21st season at the helm. Royal has a 209-158-40 record for the Explorers.
SCOUTING THE RAMS
  • Rhode Island enters the contest after ending the regular season 4-3-3 in A-10 play and 4-8-3 overall. The Rams' four wins were against Davidson (1-0), George Mason (3-0). St. Bonaventure (2-1), and Richmond (1-0), respectively. 
  • The Rams are led by Cristina Sallent, who has three goals and seven points.
  • Rhode Island is coached by Megan Jessee, who is in her seventh season as head coach. Jessee has a career record of 22-75-22.
