CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. – Explorers field hockey was victorious in a 4-2 contest against A-10 Conference rival Richmond. The Explorers were consistent offensively throughout, helping them earn their fourth conference win of the season.
La Salle will be back in action on Sunday, October 8
th at 12:00 p.m. for a non-conference matchup with Dartmouth.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Explorer's leading goal-scorer Clara Larripa broke open the scoring in the ninth minute of the contest. Tatum Johnson found Larripa for her eighth goal this year.
- A Richmond penalty in front of the cage allowed Zhao Rodrigo to strengthen the Explorer lead with a penalty shot. The junior was able to beat the Spider goalie and make it 2-0 La Salle.
- The third quarter proved to be the Spider's best goal of the game. They were able to storm back with goals of their own.
- Stevie Drum beat Emily Streib for to cut the La Salle lead in half and make it 2-1.
- The Richmond equalizer was scored by Lily Saunders as she tied the game at two.
- The teams remained tied for only over a minute. Laura McCann scored her first goal of 2023 to put La Salle right back on top.
- A corner attempt by La Salle with four seconds remaining in the quarter allowed the team to go up further. Dunja Hartsch was able to find the back of the cage in the expiring seconds of the quarter making it 4-2 La Salle.
- The final frame was the only frame to be scoreless in the contest and the 60 minutes was finished with La Salle on top 4-2.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Explorers remained consistent on offense as they shot 21 times, 17 on goal.
- Streib was able to corral seven shots, her second most saves this season.
- During conference play, La Salle has been able to outscore opponents 11-8, helping them in their 4-1 record against those teams.
- Larripa is now on a three-goal scoring streak with four goals scored in the span. In those three games she has totaled eight points.
