Explorers Drop Big 5 Contest on the Road

PHILADELPHIA – La Salle loses it's second game of the season to Drexel bringing them to 2-2 through four games.

The Explorers will return to action next Tuesday night when they travel to Rider for a 7:00 p.m. tip off.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Both teams started the game exchanging offensive scoring drives. Emilee Tahata broke open the scoring on the first La Salle possession with a three-pointer, but Drexel responded.
  • Nicole Melious continued to show her ability to score at an efficient level early in tonight's contest. After the first quarter she led the Explorers with six points and it came from driving into the lane and using touch off the backboard.
  • By the end of the opening frame Drexel took control of the contest. At one point up 13-11, the Dragons then scored seven unanswered points led by Amaris Baker.
  • Drexel piled on the score into the second quarter, aided by La Salle not converting a field goal. The first bucket of the quarter for the Explorers came with four minutes remaining in the half and at that point Drexel had built their lead.
  • Emilee Tahata led La Salle at the break with seven points, but the Explorers found themselves down 33-21.
  • The Blue & Gold made a push to come back early in the third quarter, but it was not enough. Baker continued to be a force on the offensive end for the Dragons and strengthened the lead throughout the third. The end of the quarter would end with Drexel up 19 points.
  • Laine McGurk would add to the Dragon total during the final frame of play and ended the night with 20 points.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • The Explorers were unable to execute tonight on the boards as they gave up 48 rebounds to Drexel.
  • Melious led La Salle in scoring for back-to-back games and added to her team-leading scoring total on the year.
  • Graduate transfer Makayla Miller tallied her season-high in points with eight tonight against the Dragons.
  • Emma Egan and Tahata were each able to swipe two steals that contributed to the 13 turnovers by Drexel.
