A Big 5 Meeting with Penn Awaits Women’s Basketball on Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA – La Salle women's basketball will travel to the Cathedral of College Basketball on Wednesday night to take on the Penn Quakers at 6:00 p.m.
 
The Explorers enter with a 3-2 record, 0-1 in Big 5 play, and Penn comes in at 4-2, also 0-1 in Big 5 contests this season.
 
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
  • The last time out for La Salle was a convincing 72-44 win over the Rider Broncs in Lawrenceville, N.J.
  • Junior transfer Gabby Turco had her best performance in a La Salle uniform against Rider totaling 16 points and six rebounds in the win. Turco is now tied with Jolene Armendariz as the team leaders in assists this season each having 26.
  • The high scoring Explorers were sparked by the three-point shooting of Nicole Melious late in the win over the Broncs. The freshman sank three from deep to add to the point total.
  • As a team, the Explorers tied a season high in field goals made (28) against Rider. Turco led the team shooting 7-10 from the field.
  • La Salle distributed the ball at a high level their last time out. The 20 total assists mark a season-high with Molly Masciantonio doing what she does best and leading the Explorers with five total.
  • The Blue & Gold pulled in 50 rebounds against the Broncs, 11 of which were corralled by Armendariz.
 
SCOUTING THE QUAKERS:
  • Penn returns to The Palestra after a three-game slate in California. They went 2-1 on the road-trip with their most recent win coming against UC San Diego 76-68.
  • Junior guard Stina Almqvist leads Penn in scoring this season totaling 114 points and averaging 19 points per game in her six appearances. In the Quakers win over La Salle last season Almqvist score six points.
  • Jordan Obi was a force in last year's match up scoring 20 points in the Penn win. This season she is averaging 12.5 points per game and is second on the team in rebounds, averaging 6.8 per game.
  • La Salle leads the all-time series against Penn 9-8, but the Quakers have won seven of the last ten contests.
