Men's Basketball Matches Single-Game Assist Record in Win Over Rosemont

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University men's basketball team dished out 35 assists to match a program record in a 107-41 victory over Rosemont at Tom Gola Arena on Thursday. The assist total matches the prior record set against Loyola (La.) during the 1966-67 season. 

Junior Khalil Brantley led 10 Explorers who recorded an assist, disghing out a career-high 12. Redshirt freshman Ryan Zan was one of five La Salle players in double figures in scoring, setting a new career mark with 19 points on 9-of-10 shooting.

NEWS & NOTES
  • The Explorers jumped out to a quick 11-0 lead and took a 21-3 lead after a nifty layup from junior Daeshon Shepherd with 14:47 left in the opening period.
  • La Salle continued to build its lead and utilized a 12-0 spurt to push ahead by a margin of 42-11 with 6:21 on the clock.
  • Jhamir Brickus had 10 points and four assists in the first half, while Andres Marrero added nine points on 3-of-6 shooting from distance.
  • Zan was the story in the second half, scoring 17 of his career-high total after intermission. 
  • The 6-7 forward also corralled seven rebounds and had three steals in 17 minutes of action, with his jumper at the 4:01 mark pushing La Salle past the century mark for points in the game.
  • All 13 players who saw action found the scoring column, including the first career points for senior James Joseph (4), junior Tommy Gardler (6), junior Milos Kovacevic (6), and freshman Efe Tahmaz (3).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • La Salle shot a season-best 59.7 percent from the field including 11-for-28 (39.3%) from three-point range.
  • In addition to Zan and Brickus, sophomore Rokas Jocius (15 points), Shepherd (12 points) and Marrero (10 points) reached double figures.
  • The Explorers shared the basketball extremely well but also took care of it, committing just five turnovers on the game. 
  • The 35-assist, 5-turnover ratio marks just the fourth time since 2010-11 that a team has had at least 35 assists with five turnovers or less.
  • Freshman Tunde Vahlberg Fasasi pulled down a team-high seven rebounds as the Explorers led the rebounding battle, 43-23.
  • Dejuan Taylor and Zaki Gomez led the Ravens with eight points apiece.

  • La Salle takes an eight-day break before returning to action on Saturday, Dec. 30 against Howard.
  • The home game at Tom Gola Arena is scheduled to tipoff at 2:00 p.m.
