HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Scarlet Knights got off to a hot start going on a 7-0 run to begin the game, but Jolene Armendariz was able to get La Salle on the board and settle the Explorer offense in.
  • Hailey Chiles got early action tonight and made the most of it from the start. Her first points were an and-one shot in the paint where she converted the free-throw to get La Salle within three points.
  • A Tiara Bolden three-point shot got the Explorers within two points at 12-14. The next offensive possession for La Salle gave them the lead thanks to a fast-break three-pointer from Gabby Turco.
  • Rutgers ended the first on a 7-0 run as the quarter ended with the home team up 21-15.
  • The Scarlet Knights continued to score early in the second and kept La Salle in control on offense.
  • A handful of three-point conversions by Armendariz and Nicole Melious sent us to the end of the first half with Rutgers leading 47-36.
  • Rutgers came out firing in the second half and made sure there was no opportunity for a La Salle comeback in store. More Scarlet Knight offense led by Kaylene Smikle and Kassondra Brown had Rutgers up 73-50 entering the final ten minutes.
  • Melious kicked off the fourth for La Salle with a corner three-pointer, her fourth of the contest.
  • Two offensive possessions later, Armendariz knocked down her second shot from three.
  • Ultimately it was not enough, and Rutgers got the win
