Lehigh Tops Women’s Basketball Thursday Night

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – La Salle women's basketball dropped a non-conference match up with the Lehigh Mountain Hawks Thursday night 106-60.
 
The Explorers will be back in action next Sunday, December 17th when they play host to the Temple Owls at 1:00 p.m.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Mountain Hawks offense came out connecting early in the contest. They began the game outscoring the Explorers 8-2 within the two minutes of the game.
  • Molly Masciantonio connected on her first shot of the night from deep which got La Salle within three points, down 7-10.
  • La Salle had missed opportunities down the stretch of the first quarter and found themselves down 12-28.
  • Ella Stemmer was a force in the first quarter for Lehigh, and that continued in the second quarter. She scored her 13th point early in the second to help the Mountain Hawks.
  • The Explorer defense was being continually tested in the first half of play. Lehigh had pressure on offense, especially through Lily Fandre who finished the half with 11 points. The teams went to the break with Lehigh leading 50-23.
  • Coming out of the half, La Salle had quick opportunities to break into the Lehigh lead. The team-leading three-point getter Nicole Melious knocked down two quick threes, bringing her up to eight points.
  • The Blue & Gold continued to fight throughout the third quarter. Tiara Bolden rebounded on both ends of the floor and finished the third quarter with 11 rebounds.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Melious would go onto lead La Salle in points for the fourth time this season in a game. The team's leading scorer finished with 16 points tonight. This is the third time she's made four threes in a game.
  • Bolden has a career night in rebounds against the Mountain Hawks, finishing with eight.
  • Masciantonio scored a season high 13 points tonight. The graduate student was 4-9 from the field, and one of two from three.
 
UP NEXT:
  • The Explorers will have a break for over a week before returning home to face the Temple Owls on Sunday, December 17th at 1:00 p.m.
  • That game will be the B Positive and Pediatric Cancer Awareness game and fans in attendance will receive a B Positive wrist band.
