PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – La Salle women's basketball forward Kayla Spruill sank her 209th career three-pointer in the contest to set the program record for career threes and help lead the Explorers to a 72-56 victory over Duquesne to snap a three-game skid on Super Bowl Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Duquesne took an early five-point until back to back threes from Shears and Amy Jacobs put La Salle in a single-point lead before the media, 11-10. The teams tied the score two more times with Molly Masciantonio converting the layup as time ran out on the quarter to put the Explorers ahead 15-11.
  • An early bucket from the Dukes tied it up to start the second quarter. The Explorers defense held Duquesne scoreless for the next two and a half minutes before letting foul trouble get the best of them giving the Dukes the opportunity to put up 1-of-4 from the charity stripe to take a single point lead 16-15. Kayla Spruill found Masciantonio in the lane to follow to shift the momentum in the Explorers direction, 17-16. The teams continued to trade points with Spruill sinking it from beyond the arc to put La Salle ahead 22-20. The Dukes put up one more point from the free throw line before the teams started on a nearly four-minute scoring drought broken with a crucial three ball from Gabriela Falcao to put La Salle ahead by four, 25-21.
  • A 7-0 run for the Explorers in the second half put them ahead by their largest lead yet, 40-32, with 3:23 left. The Explorers held the Dukes to just five more points in the rest of the frame putting up nine more of their own thanks to back-to-back threes from Masciantonio and Claire Jacobs in the final 30 seconds of the quarter to pull ahead by 12, 49-37.
  • La Salle's sharp shooting paid off in the final frame shooting 5-of-7 from the long range and 9-of-14 from the field to put up a 23-point frame and take as large as a 20-point lead over the Dukes eventually securing the 72-56 victory.
