ERIE, Pa. – The La Salle women's water polo team swept the weekend securing its sixth-straight win of the season in a 13-11 victory over Bucknell on Sunday to end the Mercyhurst Invitational with a 4-0 mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- La Salle's offense came out with a strong start once again with five goals in the first eight minutes, but the Bison kept it close with four goals to keep the deficit down to just one, 5-4.
- The Explorers let up just one goal to the Bison while recording three of their own for an 8-5 advantage with six seconds remaining. Bucknell struck again in the final seconds to cut the deficit to two, 8-6, until a powerful shot from Francesca Co' found the back of the net to put La Salle back up 9-6 to end the first half.
- The Bison came out in the second half strong with a 2-0 run to come within a single point of tying, 9-8, with 3:33 left in the frame. La Salle recorded three goals in the final three minutes allowing just one from Bucknell to take an 11-9 edge into the final eight minutes.
- Both teams put up two goals in the final eight minutes with the Explorers coming out on top with the 13-11 victory over Bucknell.
- Co' led the offense for the Explorers once again with a team-high six goals. She was joined by Shanna Zuanich offensively with three goals, Madelyn Koerper with two and Tatum Lomax with one.
- Casey Malone was the key distributor of the ball with a team-high two assists. She also led the defensive side of the game with a team-high two steals.
- Lomax joined in the defensive efforts with three field blocks.
- Emma Gurasich recorded seven saves in net and added two steals.
- The teams went 2-2 in sprints.

- The Explorers will return to action next Friday, Feb. 24 through Sunday, Feb. 26 facing three new opponents at the Princeton Invitational.
