Water Polo Looks to Keep Winning Momentum Going at Princeton Invite

PRINCETON, N.J. – The La Salle women's water polo team enters a three-game weekend at the Princeton Invitational looking to extend its six-game win streak against Iona, Chapman and No. 13 Princeton.

La Salle will start the weekend on Friday, Feb. 24 against Iona at 4 p.m. before returning to the pool at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25 to face Chapman. The Explorers will finish the weekend against host, Princeton, on Sunday, Feb. 26 in a 7 p.m. matchup. The contest against the Tigers will stream live on ESPN+.
 
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
  • La Salle enters the contest at 8-3 on the season having won its last six consecutive contests. Two of the Explorers three losses have come against ranked opponents.
  • The Explorers are led by offensive powerhouse Francesca Co'. The sophomore has totaled 43 goals on 93 shots while adding 22 steals, eight steals and four drawn exclusions.
  • Madelyn Koerper is also in double-digit scoring for the Explorers this year with 23 goals and is joined in the category by Shanna Zuanich (21), Tatum Lomax (14) and Casey Malone (13).
  • Emma Gurasich and Caitlin Valentine have split time in the net this season. Gurasich has recorded 60 saves, five assists and 13 steals. Valentine has totaled 46 saves, two assists and four steals.
SCOUTING THE GAELS:
  • Iona enters the contest at 3-1 on the season dropping its only contest to Bucknell, 15-16. The Gaels are on a two-game streak defeating both Penn State Behrend and Gannon in double-digit margins of victory.
  • Jordan Van Reeken leads the Gaels defense with 21 goals on 29 shots for a 72.4 shooting percentage. She has added seven assists and drawn eight exclusions.
  • Sydney Brightenburg serves as the second leading scorer with six goals on the season.
  • 15 other players have recorded goals this season with 13 scoring at least two.
  • Gabrielle Brozovic has recorded 14 saves alongside Sadie Sallas.
  • Lola Trujillo has seen action in three games totaling nine saves.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS:
  • Chapman enters the contest at 1-3 on the season posting its only win in its second game against Westcliff in a narrow single-point margin of victory, 17-16.
  • Kasey Markell leads the scoring efforts for the Panthers with a team-high 10 goals making her the only player to record double-digit goals on the season.
  • Chapman is also led by Camille Chiang with seven goals a tied for team-high six assists.
  • The Panthers' five goalies have shared time in the cage with Georgia Burton recording the most with 88 minutes. She has tallied 33 saves and holds a 55% percentage.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS:
  • Princeton enters the game at 7-1 on the season and is on a three-game win streak after dropping its only contest to Wagner. The Tigers are currently ranked 13th in the nation.
  • The Tigers are 4-1 when playing in their home pool.
  • Kayla Yelensky leads the team with 18 goals off 37 shots. She has added five assists, three steals and ranks second in exclusions drawn with 12.
  • Jovana Sekulic ranks second in scoring with 15 goals adding four steals and a team-high 19 exclusions drawn.
  • Rachael Carver leads the team in assists with 17 and steals with nine.
  • Lindsey Lucas has recorded 224 minutes in the net totaling 78 saves, 52 goals against, three assists and one steal.
