PRINCETON, N.J. – The La Salle women's water polo team fell into an early deficit against No. 13 Princeton that it couldn't overcome, dropping the contest 16-6 to finish its weekend at the Princeton Invitational with a 1-2 mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Explorers gave up three goals in the first period to fall behind the Tigers. Hannah Woren put La Salle on the board early in the second period to cut the deficit to two, 3-1.
- Princeton responded to make it a three-goal game again cut back down to a two-goal game by Tatum Lomax, 4-2. Back-to-back five meters for the Tigers put them up 6-2 with four minutes to play in the first half. Princeton put up another three unanswered goals to take a 9-2 lead into the second half.
- The Tigers started off the second half with a 4-0 run before La Salle's Claire Durham picked up a loose ball off the save to start the Explorers on a 2-0 spurt to end the third period, 13-4.
- Princeton started with a quick goal off the sprint answered by a second goal from Durham to make it a 14-5 game. The Tigers responded immediately to create a 10-goal game, 15-5. Shanna Zuanich broke away with the ball lobbing it into the cage to cut the deficit to nine, 15-6. The Tigers put up one more to end the game, 16-6.
- Zuanich and Durham led the offensive efforts with two goals apiece.
- Lomax and Woren each contributed one goal in the game.
- Despite firing off 12 shots, offensive force Francesca Co' was unable to find the back of the net, but still lead the defensive efforts with a team-high three steals.
- Madelyn Koerper drew a team-high two exclusions.
- Emma Gurasich made seven saves in the game adding two assists and two steals.
- The sprints were even at 2-2.
