PRINCETON, N.J.- The La Salle women's water polo team suffered a tough 11-9 loss to Iona to start the weekend before returning strong the next day with a 12-2 win over Chapman to start the Princeton Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED (IONA):
- Iona jumped out to a quick two-goal lead after the first quarter firing off four at the Explorers' net while keeping La Salle to just two, 4-2.
- The second period was low-scoring for both teams with each converting just one goal allowing the Gaels to maintain their two-goal edge, 5-3.
- La Salle remained neck-in-neck with Iona over the second half with each team putting up an even six goals apiece. The Explorers couldn't pull ahead from the early deficit dropping the contest 9-11.
- Hannah Woren and Madelyn Koerper led the scoring efforts for the Explorers with a team-high three goals each.
- Francesca Co', Shanna Zuanich and Casey Malone each also put up one goal apiece.
- Co' and Malone led the defensive efforts with three steals each while Co' also added two blocks.
- Koerper drew a team-high three exclusions.
- Emma Gurasich made five saves in the net and added one assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED (CHAPMAN):
- The Explorers jumped out to an early-three goal lead in the first period converting four goals while holding Chapman to just one.
- The momentum continued into the second period allowing just a single goal while putting up five for the 9-2 edge heading into the second half.
- La Salle held the opponent scoreless through the next 16 minutes recording two more goals of its own in the final frame for the 12-2 victory.
- Zuanich led the scoring efforts with a team-high five goals for the Explorers followed by Co' with four.
- Koerper added two goals in the game while Tatum Lomax recorded one.
- Co' led the defensive effort with 10 steals in the game, breaking the single-game program record of seven set by the sophomore last season.
- Zuanich drew a team-high three exclusions.
- Gurasich and Caitlin Valentine shared duties in the net. Gurasich recorded eight saves adding three assists and one steal. Valentine totaled four saves.
