PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle men's basketball team goes for its second straight win on Sunday when it goes across town to face rival Saint Joseph's in a nationally televised game at Hagan Arena. Tip-off is set for noon.
The game will be televised on ESPNU, with Mike Corey and John Williams delivering the play-by-play and color commentary. Explorers fans can also listen to the broadcast through GoExplorers.com/watch, with Kale Beers, Rich Prendergast and Bron Holland on the call. NEWS & NOTES
- The Explorers will go up against the Hawks for the 126th time in program history. Saint Joseph's leads the series with a 68-57 record.
- The Explorers are coming off a much-needed 75-64 victory over George Washington on Wednesday at Tom Gola Arena at TruMark Financial Center.
- The Explorers will look to beat the Hawks for the fourth time in their last five meetings after topping them three times last season, including a 63-56 win in the opening round of the Atlantic-10 Tournament. The Hawks topped the Explorers, 71-59, on Jan. 16 at Tom Gola Arena at TruMark Financial Center.
- The Explorers have three players averaging close to double figures in Khalil Brantley, Josh Nickelberry, and Fousseyni Drame. The threesome has combined for 33.9 points per game, with Brantley scoring 14.2 per game, Nickelberry chipping in 10.2 per contest, and Drame adding 9.5 per game.
- The Explorers are led by head coach Fran Dunphy, the all-time winningest coach in Philadelphia Big 5 history. A 1970 La Salle graduate, Dunphy sports a 589-338 career record and a 332-135 mark in conference games.
COMING OFF THE BENCH
- The Explorers have one of the top benches in the country, as they are ranked 66th in the NCAA in bench points per game at 24.27 points per game.
- The Explorers have seen their bench score over 30 points in a game five times this season.
CRASHING THE OFFENSIVE GLASS
- The Explorers have entered the top 100 in all of NCAA when it comes to grabbing offensive rebounds, as they are ranked 92nd in the country with 11.18 offensive rebounds per game.
- The Explorers have pulled down 11 or more offensive rebounds in a game 11 times this season, including a season-best 20 against Rhode Island on Jan. 7.
- Fousseyni Drame leads the team in offensive rebounds, averaging 2.2 per game.
SCOUTING SAINT JOSEPH'S
- The Hawks enter the game at 12-11 and 5-5 in A-10 play after winning five of their last six games, including a 64-50 win over Rhode Island on Wednesday night and the win over the Explorers on MLK Day.
- The Hawks' other wins in A-10 play were against Loyola Chicago (86-55), UMass (74-68), and George Mason (79-76), respectively.
- The Hawks have three players averaging double figures in Erik Reynolds II, Cameron Brown and Lynn Greer III. Reynolds II leads the way with 18.0 points per game, while Brown has averaged 14.1 points per game and Greer III has chipped in 10.6 per game.
- Saint Joseph's is led by Billy Lange, who is in his fourth season as head coach for the Hawks. Coaching his 13th season overall, Lange has a 33-71 record with Saint Joseph's and a 164-205 overall mark.
