Men’s Basketball Seeded 11th for A-10 Championship

Explorers to face Rhode Island for third time in Tuesday’s first round

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The La Salle men's basketball team has earned the 11th seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament, the conference announced.
 
The Explorers will open the tournament against 14th-seeded Rhode Island on Tuesday in a 4:30 p.m. contest, one of three games that will take place that day at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The first-round games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
 
The Explorers enter the tournament with a 13-18 mark on the season and 7-11 mark in conference play. The Explorers will play Rhode Island for a third time this season. The Explorers and Rams split the season series, with La Salle winning a 77-75 overtime game at home on Jan. 7 and Rhode Island earning a 72-70 victory on its home court on Jan. 28.
 
VCU grabbed the top seed for the tournament after winning the A-10 regular season title, while Dayton followed as the second seed. Fordham earned the third seed and Saint Louis secured the fourth seed. The top four seeds earn a double-bye and will play in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
 
George Mason claimed the fifth seed and Duquesne was seeded sixth. Duquesne will play the winner between La Salle and Rhode Island in the second round on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The second round and quarterfinal games will air on USA Network.
 
Joining George Mason and Duquesne with single byes are No. 7 George Washington, No. 8 Davidson, and No. 9 St. Bonaventure.
 
Saint Joseph's was seeded one spot ahead of La Salle at No. 10. The Hawks will play No. 15 Loyola Chicago on Tuesday at 2 p.m. 
 
No. 12 Richmond and No. 13 Massachusetts will open the first round at 11:30 a.m. 
 
The semifinal round of the tournament will take place on Saturday, March 11. CBS Sports Network will air the semifinals at 1 and 3:30 p.m.
 
The championship round is set for Sunday, March 12 at 1 p.m. and will air on CBS. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
