PHILADELPHIA — The nationally ranked La Salle men's rowing team picked up a pair of silver medals in the Varsity 8+ and the 2
nd Varsity 8+ at the Bergen Cup on Saturday on the Schuylkill River.
The Explorers' Varsity 8+, ranked 23
rd in the country by the IRCA/IRA Coaches Poll, earned its runner-up finish by clocking a time of 5:26.0. The V8, coxswained by
Trevor Fawcett, beat out No. 20 Temple by one second and finished three seconds behind No. 15 Drexel in the race.
The Explorers' 2
nd Varsity 8+, ranked 18
th in the country, earned its second-place finish after crossing the finish line in 5:38.0. The 2V, coxed by
Elizabeth Boyle, topped No. 17 Drexel by one second and finished two seconds behind No. 19 Temple in the race.
"Amazing day on the water," La Salle head coach
Ivo Krakic said. "Today marked our last home race of the season and the team delivered great results across the board. Our V8 bounced back from last weekend and finished second, three seconds by No. 15 Drexel and one second ahead of No. 20 Temple. Our 2V had a very tight battle with Drexel and Temple. It's amazing to see our little team in the fight with the bigger programs on the river."
The Explorers will head to the Pacific Northwest next week to compete in the Windermere Cup in Seattle, Wash.
