VILLANOVA, Pa. – The La Salle women's water polo team will take a short trip over to Villanova to face Mount St. Mary's and St. Francis Brooklyn over the weekend.
The Explorers kick things off on Friday, Apr. 7 at 9 a.m. against the Mountaineers before returning to the pool on Saturday, Apr. 8 against the Terriers at 2:15 p.m.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle is coming off a big 2-1 weekend defeating both Siena and Iona before falling to Marist to keep their record at .500, 13-13. The Explorers will look for two wins this weekend to improve upon its current 3-5 conference record.
- La Salle is led by offensive and defensive force Francesca Co'. The sophomore from Rapallo, Italy leads the Explorers in five categories. She has totaled 83 goals on 212 shots this season while adding 32 assists. Defensively she leads in steals with 54 and blocks with 22.
- The veteran Madelyn Koerper has proven herself a critical asset to the team serving as the second-leading goal scorer with 54 goals on the season. She leads the Explorers in exclusions drawn with 38.
- Emma Gurasich leads the Explorers in net with 165 saves this season. She has added 13 assists and 12 steals.
- This will be the first matchup of the season for the Explorers and the Mountaineers and the second between La Salle and St. Francis Brooklyn. The Explorers are 0-1 against the Terriers so far this season. This will be the first conference contest between the two teams.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS:
- Mount St. Mary's enters the contest at 12-9 on the season and 4-5 in MAAC play.
- The Mountaineers went 1-2 last weekend falling to ranked LIU and Wagner before defeating the Keydets in Lexington, Virginia.
- Ana Luisa Cotta led Mount St. Mary's in the victory with six goals.
- Pip Piper recorded six goals across six quarters over the weekend including 17 against the Seahawks alone.
- Cotta leads the team in goals with 42 followed by Annefleur ten Bloemendal with 40. Cotta leads in field blocks with 29 while ten Bloemendal leads in steals (38) and drawn exclusions (56).
- Robyn Currie leads the assist efforts with 32.
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS:
- St. Francis Brooklyn enters the contest at 13-5 on the season with a 4-4 mark in conference play.
- The Terriers enter the weekend after going 2-1 at VMI last time out. The Terriers dropped a tough contest to ranked Wagner before recording wins over VMI and Villanova to end the weekend.
- Sydney DeVroedt leads the scoring efforts with a team-high 64 goals. Sofia Kolovou ranks second in scoring with 44 goals across 15 games.
- DeVroedt also leads in assists and steals recording 26 in each category. Kolovou also leads in exclusions drawn with 14.
- Marycatherine Mckendry has recorded 266 minutes in the goal this season with a 502 record. She has made a total of 83 saves while allowing just 83 goals. She has added 14 steals and three assists on the season.
