PHILADELPHIA — The La Salle men's rowing team picked up a pair of medals for the second straight year at the 40
th annual Murphy Cup on Saturday on the Schuylkill River.
The Explorers' 2
nd Varsity 8+ boat won a gold medal in the Men's Collegiate 2V after crossing the finish line in a time of 5:54.62. The Explorers, coxswained by
Elizabeth Boyle, beat out host Temple's A boat by 2.78 seconds for first.
In addition, the Explorers' Varsity 8+ crew, coxxed by
Trevor Fawcett, claimed a silver medal in the Men's Collegiate event after clocking a 5:45.25. The Explorers finished 3.21 seconds behind Temple in the race.
Last year, the Explorers won pair of golds in the Varsity 4+ and the Novice 4+ events.
"Great start to the season with historic finishes at the Murphy Cup," La Salle men's rowing head coach
Ivo Krakic said. "We identified areas to work on and improve. Very excited for future races! Go Explorers!"
The Explorers will be back in action next Saturday and Sunday when they compete in the Knecht Cup on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
