Explorers United Launches to Support La Salle University Student-Athlete NIL

Explorers united

General | June 1, 2023

PHILADELPHIA – Explorers United, led by a group of engaged La Salle University alumni, has been launched to benefit all La Salle student-athletes.

Working in tandem with industry-leading Student-Athlete Name, Image and Likeness (known as "SANIL"), Explorers United will leverage the collective power of the alumni, fans, and local businesses to help La Salle student-athletes excel during and beyond their time at La Salle.

More importantly, Explorers United seeks to help student-athletes maximize their NIL opportunities the right way, without compromising values and the legacy of all those who have donned the Blue and Gold in the past.

Explorers United will allow businesses, donors and other constituents to support and engage with their favorite La Salle sport programs and student-athletes, or contribute to a general fund that supports student-athletes across several sports.

Student-athletes may engage in a variety of opportunities, including personal appearances, meet-and-greets, charitable work, speaking engagements, or commercial sponsorship through Explorers United.

As with all NIL entities, Explorers United is independent from La Salle University, and the University does not receive any financial benefit from Explorers United. NCAA rules allow alumni, fans and other donors to compensate student-athletes through Explorers United, but such compensation:
  • may not be considered "pay for play,"
  • must be in exchange for services provided by the student-athlete, and
  • may not be a recruiting inducement for a student-athlete to enroll or continue to attend La Salle University
NCAA guidelines require La Salle University to educate members of an NIL entity; as such, prospective donors or subscribers to Explorers United are encouraged to review the educational information prepared by the La Salle Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and ask any questions when in doubt.
