NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — For the fifth time in six years, La Salle University had over 220 student-athletes named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, the league announced on Monday. The Explorers had 227 student-athletes make the list for the 2022-23 academic year, marking the third highest total in school history.
Designed to recognize excellence in the classroom, a student-athlete in an Atlantic 10-sponsored sport must have a 3.0 GPA for the academic year to be selected for the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Among La Salle's programs, women's rowing had the most honorees with 29 in total. Women's lacrosse was next with 27, followed by women's swimming and diving with 25. Men's and women's track & field, men's and women's soccer, field hockey, and men's swimming and diving all had 20 or more as well.
Of the Atlantic 10-sponsored programs, 163 Explorers posted a 3.5 GPA or higher. Twelve of those programs boasted team GPAs of 3.0 or higher during the spring semester. La Salle student-athletes as a whole posted a combined GPA of 3.47 this past spring and 77 percent of student-athletes finished with a 3.0 or better.
It was a record for the Atlantic 10 as a conference as well with 3,954 student-athletes being named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. The recognition was previously awarded twice during the academic year, once after each semester. The change to once per year was made prior to the 2017-18 season.
