WEST WINDSOR, N.J. — The La Salle men's rowing team's Varsity 8+ and 2
nd Varsity 8+ boats placed in the top three of their respective semifinal races on Saturday to advance to the C finals of the 120
th IRA National Championship Regatta at Mercer Lake.
The Explorers' Varsity 8+ and 2
nd Varsity 8+ crews both took third in their C/D semifinal races. By doing so, they will compete in the C finals on Sunday and guarantee a top-18 finish at the national regatta.
The Varsity 8+, ranked 19
th in the country, earned its third-place finish in the semis after posting a time of 6:30.73. The V8, coxswained by
Trevor Fawcett, beat out No. 24 UC San Diego by almost seven seconds to grab the last spot in the C final. The V8 will compete in the C final against No. 11 Boston, No. 14 Wisconsin, No. 16 Drexel, No. 17 Columbia, and No. 18 Navy at 8:48 a.m. Sunday.
The 2
nd Varsity 8+, ranked 21
st in the nation, finished third in its semifinal after clocking a 6:35.58. The V8, coxswained by
Elizabeth Boyle, edged Oregon State by 3.18 seconds to earn the last spot in the C final. The 2V will go up against No. 13 Stanford, No. 14 Wisconsin, No. 15 Navy, No. 17 Drexel, and No. 23 UC San Diego in the C final at 8:32 a.m. Sunday.
