La Salle Plays Strong Defensive Game, but Come Up Short against #10 Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Explorers played stout defense throughout the contest against the tenth ranked Rutgers but lost 2-0 in the end.
 
La Salle will be back in action next Friday, September 22nd as they travel to #18 UMass.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The game's opening quarter consisted of stout defense by both teams. Rutgers was able to get off two shots, while La Salle's Camila Daud put on their only shot.
  • Early in the second frame Rutgers' Carly Snarski was able to find the back of the cage for the contest's first goal.
  • The opportunities for scoring were tilted towards Rutgers the remainder of the second quarter as they had five corner shot chances, none connected. La Salle would enter the half down by one goal.
  • The third quarter closely resembled the first, defense holding strong. La Salle held the high-powered Rutgers offense to two shots total in the third.
  • La Salle was aggressive offensively in the final 15 minutes as they put off four shots. Sol Espona shot it twice for La Salle in the fourth quarter.
  • Puck Winter strengthened the Rutgers lead late in the quarter as the game would end at 2-0.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Espona and Tatum Johnson led La Salle in shots taken, each with two.
  • The Explorer defense held the Scarlet Knights to 15 shots. This shot amount ties a season low for Rutgers in their 8-0 start.
  • Emily Streib notched seven saves in the contest.
