Men's Soccer Hits the Road To Take on Rhode Island

KINGSTON, R.I. – The La Salle men's soccer team will hit the road Saturday to take on A-10 opponent Rhode Island at URI Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.  
 
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+. In addition, La Salle fans can follow the team on X @LaSalle_MSOC and Instagram @lasalle_msoc. 
 
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS 
  • La Salle (3-3-2) dipped its toe in the water of conference play last Saturday with their first A-10 matchup against Saint Joseph's, tying the Hawks, 1-1, at McCarthy Stadium. 
  • The Explorers are looking to bounce back after their 3-1 defeat to Rider in a non-conference match on Tuesday. The men's soccer team look to return to form they showed in the beginning of the season with strong performances in the midfield and backfield. 
  • Yuval Nimrodi netted the first goal for the Explorers against Rider in the 33rd minute before the Broncs came back to win the game. Nimrodi's goal was his third of the season, tying him for the lead on the team with Americo Pereira
  • La Salle tied Rider in corner kicks with eight, although the Broncs outshot the Explorers 13-6. Filip Sabatti made key saves to keep the game close. 
  • URI and La Salle drew each other, 2-2, in their contest last year at McCarthy Stadium. The Explorers are 3-9-1 all-time against Rhode Island and are 2-4 when playing them at Rhode Island. 
SCOUTING THE RAMS 
  • Rhode Island (2-3-2) lost its last two contests, dropping a 4-0 match to Bryant and a 6-0 contest to  Dayton to open A-10 play. 
  • The Rams have scored five goals this season with five goal leaders with one apiece. The Rams scored three of their goals in their 3-0 victory against Stonehill. 
  • Inigo Etxegarai leads the team with shots at 12 as well as five shots on goal. Etxegarai and Nate Yurkovic lead the team in points with three apiece. Extegarai, Yurkovic, and Nikos Clarke-Tosczak lead the team in assists with one. 
  • Their goaltender is Edu Rodriguez, who has allowed 12 goals and has made 14 saves thus far this season. 
  • This season, URI is 2-1-0 at home and 0-1 against conference opponents. 
  • They are led by head coach Gareth Elliot. Elliot has been head coach of the Rams since 2013 achieving two NCAA Tournament appearances, two A-10 Championship titles, and two A-10 Coach of the Year awards.
