Larripa Scores Twice to Help Down Davidson for an A-10 Conference Win

DAVIDSON, N.C. – La Salle field hockey earned a 4-3 victory Friday night over the Davidson Wildcats thanks to two goals from freshman Clara Larripa.
 
La Salle will be back in action on Sunday as the take on Queens University starting at 12:00 p.m. Follow along during the game on X @LaSalleFH and on Instagram @lasallefh.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Each team was able to stay consistent offensively to start the game. La Salle was able to get off two shots before the halfway point in the opening frame.
  • The scoring was broken open by Tatum Johnson to give La Salle the lead early. This goal was Johnson's third of the season.
  • Clara Larripa wasted no time getting La Salle the lead back in the second quarter. The Explorers led 2-1 off the freshman's fifth goal this season.
  • La Salle kept the pressure on in the second as Paige Doyle scored her first goal of the season to put the visitors up 3-1.
  • Less than 30 seconds before the half came to a close, Davidson pulled within one goal. Abby Pompeo scored her seventh goal this season and the game went to the break with La Salle leading 3-2.
  • The Explorers fourth goal of the game was scored by Larripa. This goal makes her the team's leading scorer with six thus far.
  • The Wildcats kept the game close after Sib Naaktgeboren scored her second goal of the game to put Davidson down by one with just over ten minutes to play.
  • La Salle's defense held strong the rest of the way. Davidson pulled their goalie with three minutes remaining and they were only able to get off one shot, which was saved by Emily Streib.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • La Salle is now 2-1 in conference play, their best start to A-10 play in three seasons.
  • Larripa is the team leader in goals scored for La Salle with six on the year.
  • Dunja Hartsch took three shots, all of which on goal for the Explorers.
  • Streib had three saves on the night bringing her save percentage to .680.
  • As a team, La Salle out shot Davidson 15-10, and had five corners opposite Davidson's two.
