La Salle Drops Conference Contest to Davidson

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. – La Salle field hockey fell at home on Sunday 2-0 to the Davidson Wildcats to bring their overall season record to 8-8 this year, and 1-4 in conference play. The Explorers return to action on Friday at 5:00 PM when they play host to the VCU Rams.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The game opened up with a quick start by the Davidson offense and one of their star players Sib Naaktgeboren as she got off three shots within the first four minutes of the game.
  • At the 11-minute mark of the first quarter, the Wildcats struck. A penalty corner inserted by Ava Mickle aided in the first score of the game. Matilda Collins netted the goal with an assist from Celie Constantine.
  • Defenses locked in on both sides throughout the second quarter as there were only three shots combined in the 15-minute frame.
  • The La Salle offense came out to try and turn the tide out of the halftime break. Within the first three minutes of the third quarter the Explorers had two corner attempts.
  • Sofia Pla and Quinn Medico each had shots off of those attempts, but no goals to show.
  • Leading by one going into the final frame, Davidson's offense continued to pressure the Explorers to strengthen their lead.
  • Seven shots total were put off by the Wildcats in the fourth, with one of those shots converting through.
  • Eva van der Kooi gave the Wildcats the 2-0 lead with only six minutes remaining.
  • La Salle did everything possible to cut the difference, including pulling their goalie, but it was not enough in the end.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Davidson led in shots taken today 19-10, and 14-5 with shots on goal.
  • Abby Boggs had a standout day in net for La Salle despite the result, as she had 12 saves on the day.
  • Pla led La Salle with three shots today. Roos Pasveer and Darian DeLeo followed with two each.
