RICHMOND, Va - The La Salle women's soccer closed its season with a bang, defeating the homestanding Richmond Spiders, 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Haley Gschrey made headlines with her 10
th goal of the season, the most since Maci Bowser scored the same number in 2019.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- La Salle pressed early, with three shots in the first 10 minutes.
- Two cards were handed out in the next few minutes as the game turned physical.
- The Explorers controlled the remainder of the half, with six shots to Richmond's one. The teams entered the halftime break locked at nil.
- The Explorers immediately resumed their attack in the second half and were rewarded with a goal in the 53rd minute. Gabby Picco and Olivia Vricella assisted.
- Eight minutes later, La Salle scored again. This time it was a pair of freshmen, with Alexis Garcia finding Ella Cadigan for the score.
- The Explorers' defense held strong, not allowing a shot until the 70th minute.
- The Spiders only fired one more shot on goal for the remainder of the contest, giving La Salle the 2-0 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Michela Auguadro earned her fifth shutout of the season and 21st of her career, locking her in as second all-time in career clean sheets.
- Garcia and Cadigan contribute to what has been an outstanding rookie class for the Explorers. The group has combined for 23 points
