Women’s Basketball Readies for Big 5 Battle with Temple

PHILADELPHIA – La Salle women's basketball will host the Temple Owls tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 PM at John Glaser Arena for the final pod game in Big 5 play. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
  • The Blue & Gold are sitting on a three-game winning streak after Tuesday's win over Lehigh.
  • The Explorers were led by Aryss Macktoon and Ashleigh Connor against Lehigh as the duo dropped a combined 30 points.
  • Ayisse Magassa and Jolene Armendariz also finished with double-digit points, scoring 10 and 11 points, respectively.
  • This will be the second, and final pod game in the Big 5 Classic Series this season ahead of the Championship on December 7th.
  • La Salle is looking to go 1-1 within Big 5 games this season with a win over Temple. The Big 5 Championship will be held at Villanova's Finneran Pavilion.
  • The Explorers as a team have been collecting rebounds efficiently throughout the early parts of the 2024-25 season. Pulling in 278 rebounds in all, La Salle has corralled 180 defensive boards through the first six games, and 98 on the offensive side of the court.
  • La Salle has eight players who have pulled in 22 or more rebounds this season. Jolene Armendariz and Ashleigh Connor lead the team with 42 rebounds total, and pulling in 6.0 per game.
  • Both the La Salle men's basketball team, along with La Salle women's basketball have gone undefeated this year at John Glaser Arena. The teams are a combined 7-0 in the newly renovated home of the Explorers.
 
SCOUTING THE OWLS:
  • Temple enters the contest at 3-3 this season. The Owls have secured wins over Delaware, VCU, and Drexel, but have fallen at the hands of Richmond, Georgetown, and Princeton.
  • The Cherry and White are coming off of a successful 2023-24 campaign in which they went 20-12 overall and 13-5 in conference play. The Owls made it to the semifinals of the AAC Championships Tournament, but fell to the Rice Owls 60-57.
  • Tiarra East enters the contest as the leading scorer for Temple. The senior from Louisville, Ky. is averaging 16.3 points per game for the Owls.
  • Anissa Rivera is the next highest scorer for the Cherry and White, as she contributes 10.7 points per game for Temple.
  • Rivera also serves as the leading rebounder for the Owls, pulling in 9.2 boards per game this season.
  • Temple remains sticky on defense and it shows in the numbers. The Owls hold a 5.2 turnover margin this year, averaging 11.8 steals per game.
