Villanova, PA – The La Salle women's basketball team took the lead midway through the second quarter as part of an 11-0 run, but it wasn't enough, as the Explorers fell 74-63 in the inaugural Big 5 Classic against Penn on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both teams went back and forth in the first quarter, as Penn outscored La Salle 11-9 in the opening frame.
- The Explorers took the lead with 6:56 to play in the second quarter on a three by junior Anna Przyszlak that gave La Salle a 16-14 lead.
- Redshirt sophomore Ashleigh Connor scored four of the next six points, giving the Explorers their biggest lead of the game at 22-14 with 5:41 to play in the first half.
- The Quakers fought back to take a 34-30 lead at the half.
- Sophomore Aryss Macktoon made her presence felt in the second half, scoring eight points and grabbing two steals in the fourth quarter alone.
- Consecutive baskets by Macktoon cut the deficit to seven at 55-48 with 7:53 to play, but it wasn't enough, as the Quakers hung on for the victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Connor led the Explorers with 13 points, with Macktoon and Przyszlak adding 12 and 10 points, respectively.
- The Explorers had a 13-2 edge in steals on the afternoon, resulting in a 17-8 advantage in points off turnovers.
- La Salle also held a 24-3 lead in bench points throughout the game.
Next up, La Salle will return to John Glaser arena on Friday, December 13, against Chestnut Hill College, with tip-off set for 6:00 pm.
