HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Both teams came out of the game slow on offense, but held up their end of the bargain on the defensive end of the floor.
  • Halfway through the first quarter, the teams sat tied at 2-2. Makayla Miller opened the scoring for the Explorers with a trip to the charity stripe and sinking both shots.
  • Miller would later find her shot from beyond the arch, her first of the game. This shot would tie the game at five with 2:24 remaining in the first.
  • GW would go in a 6-0 run in the end of the first, into the early stages of the second quarter. Nicole Melious, however, would end that run doing what she does best, shoot threes. The freshman would hit three-point shots on back-to-back offensive possessions to cut the GW lead.
  • Gabby Turco would later call her own number and drive to the bucket, which would draw the foul sending her to the free-throw line. She would sink one of two and cut the lead to one point at 14-15. The Revs would then take over for the remaining minutes of the half.
  • GW would outscore the Explorers 13-2 in the last 4:27 of the half, which included a half-court buzzer-beater by Nya Robertson, giving her 11 points at the break.
  • To open the second half, the Explorers offense came alive, thanks to Melious. The guard had back-to-back-to-back scoring drives, two of which included successful three-point conversions.
  • That run by the Explorers was good enough to pull them within four points of the Revs' lead. However, that stretch would be short lived. Robertson and Asjah Innis hit three-point shots on consecutive possessions to get the lead for GW back up to ten.
  • For the Revs, Essence Brown took over to end the third. Brown scored the last seven points of the quarter, for either team. La Salle trailed 32-48 to start the fourth.
  • The GW lead proved to be too much to come back from in the fourth for La Salle. Robertson continued her scoring ways, adding nine more points, totaling 25 on the night.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Rebounds played a big part in tonight's loss for the Explorers. La Salle brought in 32 themselves, but allowed 46 by the Revs.
  • Miller and Melious combined for 30 of the La Salle 49 points, truly carrying the way.
  • Molly Masciantonio had a good night on the boards for the Explorers, corralling six, leading the team.
  • The Explorers shot below the average three-point attempts for the season, only shooting 25 for the game.

UP NEXT:
