Women’s Basketball to Host VCU on Senior Day

PHILADELPHIA – La Salle women's basketball will return to Tom Gola Arena for a meeting with the VCU Rams on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 2:00 p.m. This will be the team's senior day and alumni day; senior day festivities will begin prior to tipoff.

SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
  • The Explorers are coming off a tough road loss to the Richmond Spiders on Wednesday, 54-74. This was the sixth-straight loss for La Salle, the second longest losing-streak of the season.
  • Three starters for the Explorers had solid performances on offense against Richmond. Nicole Melious led the charge with 12 points and eight rebounds, while shooting 4-9 from three-point line.
  • Tiara Bolden was inserted in the starting lineup and helped the Explorer offense Wednesday. She finished with 11 points, going 3-8 from beyond the arch.
  • Molly Masciantonio rounded out the trio with ten points of her own. The graduate assistant also had seven assists throughout the game.
  • The three-point shooting for La Salle was a focus for them against Richmond. The 13 makes, and 38 attempts both were season-highs for the team.
  • The Explorers are ranked in certain categories with­in the conference worth noting: 3rd in 3-PT field goals made (195), 3rd in opponent 3-PT FG percentage (.288), and 3rd in steals (230).
  • La Salle has now lost six-straight games after Wednes­day's loss to Richmond. The Explorers sit at 4-11 in con­ference play. The Rams are tied for third in the A-10 with George Mason at 12-3.
  • As a team, the Explorers take as many three-point shots as any team in the Atlantic 10 Conference with 27.4 per game. Nationally, La Salle is ranked 10th in the nation in that category. Marshall ranks first taking 31.2 three-point attempts per game this season.
 
SCOUTING THE RAMS:
  • The last time these two teams played, the Rams contained the Explorer offense, allowing only two players to enter double-digits, Makayla Miller (16) and Tiara Bolden (11).
  • For the Rams offensively, Timaya Lewis-Eutsey led the way for VCU, scoring 22 points in route to the win.
  • The first half of the last meeting between these wo teams was one of two halves. The Explorers held the Rams to 24 points, and kept the team's leading scorer, Sarah Te-Biasu, scoreless. She finished the game with 15 points, however.
  • The VCU defense is about as tough as you will see in the NCAA this season. The Rams rank second in the country in scoring defense only allowing 51.7 points per game. The Rams rank first in the country in defending the three-point line. They are allowing opposing teams to shoot 23.6% from beyond the arch, number one in the NCAA.
  • Te-Biasu ranks fifth in the conference in scoring this season averaging 15.2 points per game, which leads VCU. Along the boards Mykel Parham is the top player to watch for, pulling in an average of 8.1 rebounds per game this season.
