Quigley Scores Four, but La Salle Drops Conference Match to VCU

RICHMOND, Va. – La Salle women's lacrosse dropped their fifth-straight game, this time to the VCU Rams in a close game 12-8. The Explorers go to 2-7 on the year and are 0-4 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Both sides came out a little slow on the offensive end, with VCU having most of the opportunities early. Prior to the first goal being scored, Mary Babbage tallied three saves.
  • At the 6:02 mark in the first, Kiley Kozak added the first goal of the game for either side, giving VCU the 1-0 lead.
  • Ashley Karn added another goal for the Rams, but Maddie Henderson quickly responded for La Salle making it 2-1 at the end of the first.
  • The second quarter was all Lola Quigley for La Salle. She had her best game of the season and it started with a second quarter hat trick.
  • Quigley scored the game-tying goal with 6:14 left in the half making it a 3-3 game. Not two minutes later, the senior added her third goal to give La Salle the lead.
  • On a woman-up opportunity, VCU captured another goal to tie the game up at four just before the expiration of the half.
  • The third quarter was not as favorable for La Salle like the second was. The Rams added a quick goal to get the lead back for them, and they never looked back.
  • VCU held La Salle scoreless in the third, while adding three total goals to bring their lead to 7-4 entering the fourth.
  • At the 11:57 mark in the fourth, Mackenzie Click added a goal of her own, making the score 9-5, VCU.
  • After another Ram goal, Quigley scored her fourth of the game at the 9:41 mark, bringing the Explorers within four goals.
  • Katie Johnson and Claudia Steinmetz each added goals for the Explorers, but it proved not to be enough in the end.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Lola Quigley scored a career-high four goals in today's game, while also getting a new career-high in shots and shots on goal (5).
  • Katie Johnson remains the team's leading scorer and added one more goal today, bringing her up to 21 goals this year. She has scored in four-straight goals.
  • Mary Babbage had a career-high 14 saves in today's game, saving five shots alone by the end of the first quarter.
  • Julianna Harden scooped up four ground balls in today's game, leading the Explorers.
 
UP NEXT:
  • The Explorers will travel to Hawk Hill next Saturday at 3:30 p.m. for a meeting with the St. Joe's Hawks. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
