Water Polo Drops Two to a Pair of Ranked Opponents

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The La Salle water polo team (14-12, 2-3 MAAC) fell to a pair of ranked foes this weekend on Long Island.

HOW IT HAPPENED - #17/17 WAGNER (L, 20-13)
  • Wagner scored the first two goals of the game. Francesca Co' and Sofia Kolovou each added a goal to end the first quarter tied at two.
  • The teams traded goals to open the second, with Co' and Tatum Lomax finding the back of the net for the Explorers (4-3). Wagner scored the final five of the half to take an 8-4 lead into halftime.
  • Casey Malone opened the third with a goal, but the Seahawks scored the next three to expand their lead to six points, 11-5. The Explorers did not quit though, Lomax scored on back-to-back goals to trim the deficit. The teams traded scores the rest of the quarter to end the frame with Wagner up, 13-9.
  • The teams combined for 13 goals in the final period. Co', Carlotta Zandali, and Lomax scored for La Salle.
  • Co' led the Explorers with six goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED - #22/20 LIU (L, 14-9)
  • The Sharks jumped out to a 4-0 lead to begin the game. Co' scored twice in the final two minutes to get the Explorers back in the game as the quarter expired.
  • LIU began the second on a 4-1 run. Martina Bonet Saez scored the lone goal for La Salle. Co' added to her total as the period ran out to send LIU into the break with an 8-4 advantage.
  • The Sharks continued to pace the game, winning the third period by a tally of 3-1. Kolovou scored the goal for the Explorers.
  • LIU scored the first three goals of the four to stretch the lead to nine goals. La Salle rallied late, scoring the final four goals to close the contest. Bonet Saez, Hannah Woren, and Paige Mitchell tickled the twine for the Explorers.
UP NEXT
  • La Salle will take a week off before heading to Villanova for three games on the first weekend of April.
