POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The La Salle water polo team (15-18, 5-7 MAAC) will face the Iona Gaels (13-15, 6-5 MAAC) in the Quarterfinals of the MAAC Tournament Friday at tournament host Marist. The Explorers enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed in the Red Division. The game will begin at 4 p.m. on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:

• La Salle is coming off a 2-2 weekend at home to conclude the regular season. La Salle took down VMI in the first game and battled against Villanova in a de facto play-in game for a berth in the MAAC championships. The Explorers took down their cross-town rivals, 9-8, to punch its ticket for a fourth straight berth in the MAAC Championships.
• Francesca Co' leads the team with 98 goals, the second highest single season total in program history, 26 assists and 12 blocks. Co' was named First Team All-MAAC for the second straight season on Thursday morning.
• Freshman Martina Bonet Saez leads the team defensively with a total of 55 steals on the season. She is also second on the team in goals with 55. The native of Spain was named La Salle's Female Rising Star at the 2024 EXPYS celebration.
• Lily Kirby set a new single-season mark for saves against Villanova. She sits at 282 on the year.

 
SCOUTING IONA:

• Iona began 5-4, but dropped five of six to close non-conference play.
• The Gaels had an up-and-down run of the MAAC, ending with a 6-5 record in the conference. Like the Explorers, Iona concluded the conference slate with a 2-2 weekend.
• The two sides met at VMI in the first weekend of MAAC play. The Explorers led 9-8 with 2:30 left, but two late goals gave Iona the win
