POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The La Salle water polo team (15-19, 5-7 MAAC) fell in the MAAC Quarterfinals at the hands of Iona, 12-9 on Friday afternoon. The loss will conclude a strong season for the Explorers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The teams traded goals in an airtight first quarter. Iona opened the scoring, but Martina Bonet Saez came right back with the opening goal for La Salle. The Gaels struck back just 20 seconds later. Sofia Kolovou tied things up at 2 with 36 seconds left on the board.
- The second began with two scoreless minutes, Iona dented the twine first to retake the lead. Kolovou scored back-to-back goals, sandwiching a score from the Gaels (4-4, La Salle). Iona scored two straight to go up 6-4, Francesca Co' fired one in as time ran out in the first half.
- The teams swapped goals to start the third quarter, with Tatum Lomax scoring for La Salle. Iona ripped off three straight to build the lead to 10-6. Bonet Saez found the back of the net with 10 seconds remaining.
- The final period began with the teams trading goals once again. Iona successfully stalled out the clock. Senior Captain Hannah Woren added one final goal to cap off the season. The Explorers fell, 12-9.
