PHILADELPHIA — La Salle men's basketball guards
Khalil Brantley and
Jhamir Brickus have earned Philadelphia Big 5 honors on Monday, as voted on by league coaches. Brantley earned Second Team All-Big 5 honors while Brickus was named First Team.
Brickus received First Team honors after a stellar senior year for La Salle. It is the second straight season an Explorer has earned First Team all-Big 5 honors after Brantley made the squad last season. Brickus started all 33 games for the Explorers this year. The guard was the Atlantic-10's ironman, leading the conference with 36.4 minutes per game, good for 14
th in the country. He averaged 13.9 points and 4.8 assists per game, good for 17
th and 3
rd in the A-10, respectively. The Coatesville, Pa. native made headlines earlier this season when he racked up 41 points at Temple, setting a new Big 5 single-game scoring record. He ranks 8
th all-time on the La Salle career assist list, with 426.
Brickus also impressed in the A-10 Tournament, averaging 19.5 points per game and 4.0 assists per game in the Explorers' pair of games. He scored 21 points in La Salle's 61-60 win over George Washington, including hitting the game-winning shot with 20 seconds remaining on the clock to send the Explorers to the second round.
Brantley earned his way onto the all-Big 5 Second Team after averaging 15.0 points per game while starting 32 of 33 games this season. The junior guard pulled down 5.3 rebounds per contest. Brantley ranked 12
th in the A-10 in scoring and 23
rd in rebounding. The native of The Bronx ranks fifth in the league in assists, dishing out 4.2 per game. He ranked second in the conference in minutes (35.9) behind only Brickus. He scored his 1000
th point on January 31
st at Rhode Island.
