READING, United Kingdom - The La Salle University men's rowing team took part in the historic Reading Town Regatta on Saturday. The Explorers earned victory in the open coxed four category, while the open eight entry finished second by half a length in the final.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first race of the day, the four coxed by graduate student Trevor Fawcett jumped out to an early lead on their two competitors.
- The Explorers led from start to finish and held off a final push by Los Gatos Club out of California to win the title.
- La Salle's open eight entry got off to a fast start in its semifinal heat and dominated RAF/Royal Navy.
- In the final, Orange Coast College, who finished fourth this season at American Collegiate Rowing Championships, edged out the Explorers.

- The Henley Royal Regatta held its annual draw for scheduling on Saturday, with La Salle's two boats finding out who they will face to begin the prestigious event.
- The four will take on Edinburgh University in the opening round of the Prince Albert Challenge Cup.
- The eight squares off against another boat from the United Kingdom - the University of Birmingham - in the first round of the Temple Challenge Cup.
