HENLEY-ON-THAMES, United Kingdom - The La Salle University men's rowing team had its historic 2023-24 season come to a close on Wednesday at the Henley Royal Regatta. The Explorers' eight, who had advanced to the Round of 16 in the Temple Challenge Cup with a victory on Tuesday, fell to lightweight national champion Harvard.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crimson took an early lead on the Explorers and did not trail in the race that spans 2,112 meters in length.
- Despite every effort by La Salle, Harvard's top lightweight boat who remained undefeated on the season earned a victory by just over three lengths.
- The defeat closes the books on a historic 2023-24 season by the La Salle men's rowing team, that featured its first-ever appearance at Henley Royal Regatta.
- The Explorers had three boats finish in the top 20 nationally at IRA National Championships for the first time in program history.
- The varsity eight rose the rankings to as high as No. 16 nationally in the IRA/IRCA Top 25 Poll, while the second varsity eight also reached a school-best No. 16 ranking.
