Men’s Soccer to Start 2024 Season with Away Match Against Lehigh

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's soccer team begins its 2024 season Thursday evening against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks in Bethlehem, Pa. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS
  • The Explorers are looking to build off their 2023 campaign in which they finished 5-8-4 overall and 3-3-2 in conference play.
  • The team played the Mountain Hawks last year, which resulted in a 1-0 win for the Explorers.
  • Graduate student Drew Blackwell, who led the team in assists last season with six, will return to play for his third season in a La Salle uniform. His six assists were tied for fourth in the Atlantic 10.
  • The Explorers' top three scorers from last season will return this year. Sophomore Yuval Nimrodi, junior Americo Pereira, and redshirt senior Sean Yurgel each tallied three goals in 2023.
  • Pereira, who was a member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll last year, started 16 games last year as a central defender, and assisted on the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over George Mason.
  • The goalkeeper room will look different from last year. There will be two new goalies arriving at La Salle, including sophomore Wanwi Choi and graduate student Jules Dechert.
  • Along with Choi and Dechert, junior Tino Kneis looks to return this season after redshirting last year.
  • The team welcomes three freshmen to the squad this year.
  • The Explorers are led by head coach Taylor Thames, who enters his fourth season in charge of the group.
 
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAIN HAWKS
  • Lehigh finished the 2023 season with a 3-10-5 record overall, and a 2-5-2 record in conference play.
  • Senior Perry Kingson returns for his fourth season for the Mountain Hawks after a breakout 2023 campaign where he led his team with five goals.
  • Graduate student Blake Koski returns to Lehigh after a 2023 season where he started 12 games and made 39 saves for the Mountain Hawks.
