Women’s Soccer Scores Three Second Half Goals to Draw JMU, 3-3

Box Score HARRISONBURG, VA — In a wild affair on the road, the La Salle women's soccer team scored three second-half goals to overcome a 2-0 halftime deficit and earn a 3-3 tie at James Madison.
 
The match featured three combined goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half which put La Salle at a 3-2 disadvantage. Justyce Hollenbach secured the tie with a goal in the 84th minute.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game did not yield a shot in the first 13 minutes. James Madison converted on the first opportunity of the game in the 14th.
  • After another few shotless minutes, the Dukes converted a second time to go up 2-0 in the 21st minute.
  • The Explorers' found their footing as the half wound down. Elizabeth Estrada and Ella Cadigan both fired shots on target.
  • La Salle was shot out of a cannon in the second half. In the 47th minute, Ricshya Walker tipped the ball over the keeper while screaming towards the net to get the Explorers on the board. Gabby Picco earned the assist
  • Only two minutes later in the 49th minute, freshman Cadigan notched the first goal of her career off a ball from Walker. Walker fired a high arcing pass towards the front of the net where Cadigan beat out the James Madison defender to get a touch on the ball and tie the match at 2.
  • La Salle continued to push, with Cadigan firing two more shots on target in quick succession, both saved by the Madison keeper.
  • In the 60th minute, James Madison found the back of the net for a third time to go up 3-2.
  • Despite the goal, the Explorers' press continued to control the pace of the game. Walker and Hollenbach both created strong chances in the minutes following the goal.
  • Following a fantastic chance in the 82nd minute that veered just wide of the far post, Haley Gschrey found Hollenbach for the game-tying goal in the 84th minute.
GAME NOTES
  • Hollenbach scored her first goal of the season, while Cadigan notched the first of her career.
  • Walker put up a goal and an assist, a first for her in both categories on the year.
  • Picco passed for an assist for her second straight game.
  • Gschrey also earned an assist. She has scored a goal or passed for an assist in each of La Salle's three games thus far.
UP NEXT
  • The Explorers conclude their four-game road stretch to begin the season with a matchup at Delaware on Sunday. The contest with the Blue Hens will kick at 5:30 p.m.
