Gschrey’s Brace Lifts Women’s Soccer to Season-Opening Victory

PHILADELPHIA – La Salle women's soccer team continued its hot start to the season on Sunday with a 2-0 win over Stony Brook in the team's home opener. Haley Gschrey scored the only two goals of the afternoon and Michela Auguadro saved six shots for the Explorers' first clean sheet of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Auguadro made her first save of the afternoon in the 6th minute, stopping a ball ticketed for the center of the cage.
  • After a pair of shots from the Explorers missed the mark, Ricshya Walker advanced the ball down the field to Justyce Hollenbach on a fast break. Hollenbach forwarded the ball along to Gschrey who weaved her way through the Seawolves' defense and fired a bullet to the top left corner to put the Explorers up 1-0  in the 22nd minute.
  • La Salle kept the pressure on immediately following the goal, with shots on target from Brianna Lewis and Elizabeth Estrada. The Explorers held the advantage heading into the half.
  • The second half started off slow, with only two shots in the first 20 minutes.
  • In the 65th minute, Estrada found an open Gschrey 40 yards from the goal. The forward took a couple of steps and rocketed the ball to the corner of the goal for a spectacular goal.
  • The Seawolves found their footing and spent much of the remainder of the contest on the attack. Stony Brook fired ten shots in the final 20 minutes, but each was off-target or stopped by the Explorers' defense. La Salle took the win, 2-0.
