CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.  – The 2024 La Salle Explorers lost their first game of the season after a 2-0 loss to the Villanova Wildcats on Monday. The Blue & Gold go to 5-1 this season and will begin conference play in their next game against Lock Haven.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

•  The defenses led the way in the opening frame of the contest. Only a handful of shots were distributed on goal, but Abby Boggs exited the first with two saves under her belt.
• Each team had their chances early in the second. Both were recipients of penalty corner opportunities, and one was successful.
• With just over six minutes remaining in the half, Villanova's Anne Drabbe connected for the Wildcats giving them a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
• Within the first few minutes of the third quarter La Salle continued to apply offensive pressure on the 'Cats, but to no avail.
• The final frame was back and forth, but Nova doubled their lead with just over three minutes remaining in the game. The goal came from Sabine de Ruijter.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• This is the Explorers' first loss of the season, as they go to 5-1 overall heading into conference play.
•  Despite the score, the Wildcats only outshot La Salle by one shot, 12-11, but seven of their shots were on goal.
• La Salle had the penalty corner advantage, 4-3.
• Rumbi Zimuto, Zhao Rodrigo, and Malena Balduzzi led the Explorers in shots, each with two.
