Men's Soccer Falls to Rider at Home

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's soccer team fell on Tuesday night, 3-1 to the Rider Broncs.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Michael Chiha had a chance early for La Salle that was saved by the Rider goalkeeper in the third minute.
  • Sean Yurgel and Andrew Rosenbaum each fired shots in the opening half-hour, but both were also stopped on goal by Rider's goalie.
  • Rider took the lead on a penalty kick in the 33rd minute.
  • In the 41st minute, the Explorers tied it up on a free kick from Colin Beasley from just outside the box.
  • After halftime, Rider retook the lead in the 67th minute from a curling strike at the edge of the box.
  • Rider doubled their lead two minutes later.
  • La Salle would press into Rider's half and attempt a couple of chances, but none of them landed on frame, and Rider held on for the win.
GAME NOTES
  • La Salle outshot Rider in both halves, with a total of 12 in the game to Rider's nine.
  • Randy Burkhardt made his season debut in an Explorer uniform when he came on in the 32nd minute.
  • Beasley led the team in shots with three, and Yurgel led in shots on goal with two.
  • Corner kicks were five to three in Rider's favor.
UP NEXT
  • The Explorers team continues its three-game homestand at McCarthy Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 21 with its first conference game of the season.  The opponent will be Saint Louis, and kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
