Men's Soccer Picks Up First Conference Win of Season

Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's soccer team picked up its first conference win of the season Saturday with a 3-1 win over the Davidson Wildcats. Two successful penalties and a clever counter-attack provided the scoring for the visiting squad.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the 13th minute, La Salle was awarded a penalty kick as Colin Beasley was dragged down in the box. Andoni Garrogerricaechebarria's spot kick attempt just got by the Davidson goalie to make it 1-0.
  • Three minutes later, the Explorers got another PK goal. The Davidson player who gave La Salle's first PK committed another foul, resulting in his second yellow and removing him from the game.
  • Beasley converted the kick down the middle to put La Salle up two.
  • Though down a man, Davidson would go on the attacking side trying to close the deficit. La Salle keeper Randy Burkhardt made a tough save on a free kick attempt in the 24th minute to preserve the two-goal advantage.
  • Davidson got awarded a penalty kick in the 40th minute, and the attempt was successful to make the score 2-1 entering halftime.
  • Int the 47th minute, Burkhardt made a stop on a volley at his near post to keep the Explorers ahead.
  • A few minutes later, Giammarco Rodio put La Salle back up two. A nice through ball from Beasley put Rodio one-on-one with the keeper, and Rodio shot it over the keeper's head into the back of the net in the 50th minute.
  • From then on, La Salle sat back deep, defending well to make sure its lead would stand.
  • Davidson had a shot that hit the crossbar from close range in the 71st minute, and the La Salle defense cleared the ball away.
  • The Explorers would go down to ten men in the 89th minute.
  • Burkhardt would make his final save with 60 seconds left, and the Blue & Gold recorded its first conference win of the season.
