Women’s Soccer Hosts Temple for Philly Soccer Six Derby

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's soccer team closes out its three-game season-opening homestand this Sunday as the Temple Owls visit McCarthy Stadium. The game will kick at 1 pm.
 
Admission to McCarthy Field is free to all fans. The game will stream on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS
  • After an early season defeat at the hands of reigning Patriot League Champion Bucknell, La Salle has been on a roll with a 4-0-1 record. The Explorers are tied for the best record in the Atlantic-10.
  • La Salle claimed its third straight win on Thursday, taking down the Colgate Raiders 2-1. Sunni DiElmo and Justyce Hollenbach found the back of the net for the Explorers.
  • Captain Olivia Vricella and Haley Gschrey assisted on the goals. For Gschrey, it extends her streak of earning a point in every game this season.
  • Gschrey has proven to be one of the top players in the Atlantic-10 this season, ranking in the top three in goals (5) and points (13). She is also tied for the team lead in assists (3).
  • The Explorers rank third in the Atlantic-10 in goals (14) and goals per game (2.3). La Salle has also been moving the ball effectively, with its 16 assists ranked second in the conference.
  • Alongside Gschrey, Justyce Hollenbach and Gabby Picco are tied for the team lead in assists.
  • The Explorers are led by head coach Paul Royal, who enters his 22nd season at the helm. Royal is one of the top coaches in the Atlantic 10, earning five trips to the NCAA Tournament during his tenure and has sent 16 players to the professional ranks. He was voted A-10 Coach of the Year for the fifth time last season.
  • Royal has amassed 215 wins in his head coaching career. He ranks 18th among active D1 coaches in wins at a single institution.
 
SCOUTING THE OWLS
  • Temple has had a rough start to the campaign under first-year head coach Chris Shaw. The Owls dropped their first four contests but claimed their first win last time out at Le Moyne.
  • Four different Owls have found the back of the net. Shari Atkins and Fiona Killian are the team leaders in points with a goal and an assist a piece.
  • Shaw comes to Temple after successful stints at Robert Morris and UNLV. He is 159-121-20 all time.
