Chester, PA – La Salle soccer alumnus Ryan Richter '10 has recently been hired as the head coach of Philadelphia Union II.
Richter, who played for the Explorers from 2007-10, has worked with the Philadelphia Union organization since 2018. He started working as a coach for the Philadelphia Union academy, as he was a U-12 coach from 2018-20, followed by his role as a U-15 coach from 2020-22. In January 2022, Richter was promoted to assistant coach to the Philadelphia Union first team.
Before his coaching career, Richter played professionally for seven seasons. He was drafted in the first round of the 2011 draft by the Philadelphia Union, where he played for one season. Other teams Richter played for include MLS team Toronto FC (2013-14) and the USL Championship's Ottawa Fury FC (2015). In his professional career, Richter made 143 appearances and scored nine goals.
Richter played for the La Salle men's soccer team for four seasons from 2007-10, and was a standout player for the Explorers during his collegiate career. In 2010, Richter was named Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year and was the Student-Athlete of the Year. In 2009 and 2010, he was named Philadelphia Soccer Six Player of the Year, as he led in points and goals among all Philly Six schools those two seasons. In total, Richter scored 28 goals and recorded 13 assists during his time at La Salle.
