Swim And Dive Compete In Home Opener Against Drexel And JMU

Philadelphia, PA — The La Salle swimming and diving teams competed in a tri-meet against Drexel and JMU Saturday morning at Kirk Pool. Overall, the men lost to Drexel by a score of 209-89, while the women tied Drexel 149.5-149.5 and lost to JMU by a score of 177-122.  

On the women's side, senior Gabriela Herbreder continued her strong start to the year, claiming victories in both the 200-yd butterfly (2:04.43) and 200-yd breaststroke (2:04.43). She got her third individual win later on in the 200-yd IM with a time of 2:06.75. Senior Carlota Ungo was runner-up in the 200-yd breaststroke (2:25.30) and third in the 100-yd breast (1:06.53). Ungo, Herbreder,  senior Tori Fenn, and sophomore Camilla Frost worked together in the 200-yd medley relay to win the event with a time of 1:45.82.

The women's diving team also impressed, led by junior Tiffany Brawn, who won the 1-meter event with a score of 284.2, and freshman Lily Chandler, who finished second on the 3-meter board (265.45).

For the men, junior Carter Perkins paced the Explorers with runner-up finishes in both the 100-yd (45.88) and 200-yd free (1:42.99). Senior Tarik Gusic and sophomore Oscar Kroos each claimed second-place finishes in the 200-yd breast (2:13.5) and 200-yd IM (1:57.23), respectively. 

The men swept the diving events, with sophomore Calvin LeBlanc winning the 1-meter (335.85) and placing second on the 3-meter (331.85), while senior Carter Randall earned the 3-meter title with an impressive score of 360.55 and added a runner-up showing on the 1-meter (294.30).

La Salle will return to competition in two weeks when both teams travel to face Villanova on Saturday, November 1.
