Philadelphia, PA - The Explorers played their final home game at Ellen Vagelos Field on Sunday, a 4-2 victory over LIU, representing their fourth win in their last five games. La Salle has outscored its opponents 13-4 in that stretch. Junior Matilda Diedrichsen led the way, scoring her third and fourth goals of the season in the first half to give the Explorers a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Diedrichsen first found the back of the cage in the 15th minute, before LIU responded early in the second period. In the final seconds of the first half, Diedrichsen stole the ball away from the Sharks' defense and fired a shot over the head of Emma Capparelli to retake the lead.
After halftime, junior Darian DeLeo extended the advantage to 3-1 with her sixth goal of the season. The Sharks trimmed the deficit midway through the fourth, but freshman Annabel Leussink sealed the victory with a late tally off an assist from Roos Pasveer.
Junior Abby Boggs made six saves in the cage for La Salle, who outshot LIU 20-17 and earned a narrow 8-7 edge in corners. With the win, the Explorers improved to 7-9 on the season. With two regular season games left, the Explorers are still in the thick of the race for the Atlantic 10 Championship.
