Philadelphia, PA - La Salle Field Hockey struck first on Friday afternoon, but Saint Joseph's responded with seven unanswered goals as the Explorers fell 7-1 in their regular season finale at Ellen Ryan Field.
Junior Matilda Diedrichsen got La Salle on the board in the first quarter, scoring off a penalty corner at the 13:13 mark with assists from juniors Natalie Ricci and Natalie Wilson. The goal marked Diedrichsen's fifth of the season.
The Hawks quickly answered and took control, netting three goals in the second quarter to carry a 3-1 lead into halftime. Saint Joseph's continued to press offensively, adding two goals in both the third and fourth quarters to seal the win.
Goalkeepers Abby Boggs and sophomore Zarah Synnestvedt combined for eight saves in the contest, denying multiple attempts on penalty corners.
With the result, La Salle closed the Atlantic 10 play with a record of 2-4 and have been officially eliminated from postseason contention.
The Explorers will next be in action on Sunday as they take on William & Mary on senior day, honoring Leah DiRenzo and Shea Burns.
